On August 12, 1937, Barbara Joyce Brown was born to the family of Mr. Lloyd Sorrell and Mrs. Leona Cochran Sorrell in Luling, Texas. She went home to be with Lord on Tuesday, September 10, 2019. She was preceded in death by one brother, Ellis Sorrell and one sister, Beatrice Chinn.
Barbara graduated from Rosenwald High School in May of 1954 where she was a member of the basketball team. She went on to attend St. Phillips College in San Antonio, Texas.
Miss Barbara Sorrell became the bride of Ozzie Brown in February of 1958 while in El Paso, Texas, then moved to Cincinnati upon starting her family which included one son, Cedric and two daughters Chandra and Cheri.
Barbara confessed her faith in Christ as a young girl. She was an active member of The Church of The Living God, CWFF, Temple 51 and later Greater Emanuel Apostolic Temple for many years where she sang in the Heritage Choir, taught Sunday school and loved to serve within the church. She was a longtime employee at Children’s Hospital Medical Center.
Barbara was a Woman of God who loved the Lord and believed in the power of Prayer. She loved to talk and never met a stranger. She continued her love of basketball. She had a beautiful smile that she used to brighten the lives of others. She loved her family and spending time with her grandkids.
Barbara leaves to cherish her loving memories of her children, Chandra Y. Brown, Cedric K. (Shirley) Brown, Sr., Cheri Fitzgerald; two sisters, Delores Thompson of El Paso, Texas and Helen Chandler of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, Kelvin K. Brown Sr., Cedric K. Brown II, Cameron O. Brown, Crista K. (Alphonso) Upshaw, Kendal I. Fitzgerald and Kaleb A. Fitzgerald and five great-grandchildren, Kelvin Jr, Ashton, Alphonso Jr (AJ), Khari and Aryn and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, September 20, 2019 at the Lincoln Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 9991 Wayne Avenue, Woodlawn (45215). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 11200 Princeton Pike, Springdale, Ohio 45246.
