Walter Scarborough Obituary

Walter Scarborough at the age of 6 gave his life to Christ, born on April 26, 1938 in Eastman, Georgia to the late Arthur Ivey & Marie “Spike” Scarborough raised by Bosco Scarborough, preceded in transition by sister Bernice Smith, niece L. Irene Boyd, nephew Ardie Scarborough, bro-in-laws Calvin V. Sparks & John Jones, Sr.  Walt was a member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Hills.

 Walt sold candy bars in school (Hustling Early). He graduated from the Central High, where he studied tailoring. He obtained his certification for photography at the Military Base in Oakland, Ca. In 1966, Walt joined WLWT Chanel 5 News Team, becoming the 1st Black news photographer hired… Opening Scarborough Studios, traveling across the country selling photos at numerous Music venues & Conventions. NAACP, Allen Temple’s Excel Debutante Ball, Kool Jazz & Macy Music Festival in Cincinnati, Virginia, California, Texas, New Orleans, Louisiana, Cincinnati Public Schools, Zion Temple Academy, Easter Balls, taken Ariel photos of the city, the Indy 500, Day Care facilities in the city. Also selling photo Mugs, photo buttons, photo ID’S & Poster Pictures at the Ohio State Fair and food booth selling honey glazed corn on the cob for $1.00 & hot dogs 2 for $1. As the owner of the Shiskha House Foods, Walt sold food @ many food festivals. Oktoberfest Zinzzinati, Maifest & Oktober Covington, Ky, Dayton Art institute, Ann Arbor, Michigan. Ripley, Ohio (Tobacco Fest), New Richmond (River days), Cincinnati’s Black Family Reunion & Middletown International Fest. Catering parties he’d say, “Let me come scare the hell out your neighbors”! Walt had many Hustle Slogans. Smile Bunny Rabbit, Pictures, Pictures Here Don’t Be Scared Be Next! The Camera Don’t Lie! Young, Rich & Beautiful! Tell a Friend, where you been!

 Mojo Greens Make Yo Jeans fit good! When you saw/spoke to him he’d say “I haven’t seen you since you were a baby! You look as a peach! Hey ugly! If I was any better, I’d have to be three people! I’m trying hard, it’s your world! Mr. Scarborough enjoyed fishing in Canada, camping, bowling, roller skating, hunting, shooting pool, watching movies (falling asleep), rock n roll music, eating chili hamburgers, drinking Barq’s Cream Soda & Coors beer. Dinner with family, friends and taking pictures. Walt had larger than life achievements and goals.  Twice, passing away in 2009, God gave him another chance to Bless the world. He never met a stranger.

His legacy is cherished by daughter Markia M. Swann, Her siblings Robert, Tonya, Devin & their Mother Carol Ann Swann. Daughter Tishera M. Scarborough, her sibling Ti’Rai Gill and their Mother Janice Clark. Grandsons Terence & Marcus Swann, Anthony Harris, Jason Swann, George Davis, Chris Montgomery & Brandon Giles. Granddaughters Lanietra, Dominique, Tarissa & Jazmin. Great Great-Grandson Sons LaDarian Blackwell, Ian & A.J. Montgomery; Great Granddaughters Laila Swann, Alayna Swann, Khepri Steele, (Twins) Aniya & Aiyana Montgomery, Aliva & Londyn Swann, Xyavion & Yahminah Richardson. Siblings, Bro Arthur & Sisters Doris Scarborough, Joan Jones (Mary Sparks, Linda Jamison (Peter). Nieces Monica (Nate) Mays, Angela (Eddie) smith, Sonia & Andera Jamison. Nephews Eric Smith, Aygemang & Asante’ Sparks, Tony Scarborough, John Jones, Aaron Jamison and a host of Great Nieces, Nephews, cousins, friends and business associates. SHUCKY DARN!!!

Visitation is from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm on Friday, December 11, 2020 at Corinthian Baptist Church, 1920 Tennessee Avenue, Cincinnati, 4522. Everyone attending must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Interment on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Dayton National Cemetery, 4400 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio (45428) with Full Military Honors.

In keeping with the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions masks are required in order to enter  the service and social distancing must be practiced.  Please be prepared to comply for the safety of all.
