Walter Crimes Obituary

Walter Lee Crimes was called home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2021 after a long, fruitful life.  He was born to Emmitt Crimes and Hattie Burgess on August 30, 1922 in Midway, Alabama.  He attended school in Midway and was a member of First Baptist Church there where he was baptized.

In his early life, Walter drove a truck for a grocery store in Midway delivering groceries to customers.   He later worked for various railroad companies.  He worked for Georgia Central, New York Central, B & O Railway, and Conrail.  He retired from Conrail after 31 years.

Later in life, Walter came to Hamilton, Ohio where he met and married Ethel Williams.  To that union was born a son, Edgar.  Walter also has a daughter, Freda.

Walter was lovingly called “Shotgun” or “Shot” for short by everyone who knew him.  “Goin’ down slow” was his favorite response to everyone who asked him how he was doing.  He was adored by the community, and was presented with a community award for being an outstanding citizen.  He was always willing to lend a hand or even money to anyone who needed help.  On a daily basis, a number of people could be seen on his front porch visiting and gaining wisdom from him.  He was truly loved by everyone!

Shotgun leaves to cherish his memory his son, Edgar (Peggy) Crimes; daughter, Freda (Leonard) Ross; very special cousins, Hattie Harris and Mary Moore; and other relatives and friends.
