Sarah F. (Carter) Barkley

Sarah Francis Carter was born January 19, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the third child of the late Omar K. Carter and Ethel Fisher Carter. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ardell Barkely, Jr., sons, Glen and  Ardell III,  and siblings, Charles, Earl, and Theodor. 

Sarah attended Cincinnati Public Schools and graduated from Withrow High School where she excelled in Women's Field Hockey.  She furthered her education by attending Southern Ohio Business College for Secretarial Study.  She married Ardell Barkley, Jr. on January 30, 1948, and gave birth to six sons.  Glen who died as an infant, Ardell III, David, Daniel, Omar Stanley, and Michael.  

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and raising her children.  Sarah was employed by Showers Manufacturing in Blue Ash for a short period and later became the manager of the United Dairy Farmers in Silverton from 1974 to 1978. As manager, she won several city-wide sales awards.  Later she went back to her love of raising children, many from diapers to adulthood.

She leaves behind her sister, Mary; four sons, David of Boston, Massachusetts, Daniel of China, Omar (Yvette) Stanley  of Surprise, Arizona, and Michael (Cynthia) of Bellflower, California; 7 grandchildren, Ardell IV, Artina, Michelle, Dante', Charles, Katelynn, and Janae; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Naomi, and 21 nieces and nephews.

Graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April  4, 2020 at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
