Phillip Edward Hughes, 58, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning December 4, 2022. He was doing what he loved; working out at his favorite fitness spot, when suddenly his heart simply gave out after his workout routine.
Phillip Edward Hughes, 58, of Cincinnati, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday morning December 4, 2022. He was doing what he loved; working out at his favorite fitness spot, when suddenly his heart simply gave out after his workout routine.
Phillip was born on July 13, 1964, to Eleanor Croley and Cleveland Simpson (deceased). He attended Walnut Hills High School in Cincinnati, was accepted, and then graduated from Cincinnati Country Day School in Indian Hills and went on to attend Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut. After college and a brief career in social work, Phillip founded Power 1 Nation, a wealth education and empowerment business with a focus on marketplace ministry. Phillip was also a director in Legal Shield and a property manager for various investment properties in both Cincinnati and Dayton. Phillip had many goals in his life, with the primary goal of helping those around him develop a wealth mentality, which he believed would break both the poverty mentality and spirit. The theme scripture Phillip based his business and life on was Deuteronomy 8:18:
“And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you the power to get wealth that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.”
Phillip and his wife Marie were married on July 11, 1998, and remained so until he passed away on December 4th. Phillip had one son before he was married and then he, with Marie, had two more sons and daughter.
Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Cleveland Simpson (Gertrude Simpson - deceased) and his older brother Daniel Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Marie; his children: Imante Tillman, Michael Hughes, Immanuel Hughes and Kalaiyah Hughes. He is also survived by his mother Eleanor Croley, his two sisters Andrea Hughes and Wanda Hughes, Brothers and family members from his father's side (Ann Simpson, Frederick Simpson, Cleve Simpson, Jr. Rebecca Simpson, Sondra Simpson, Debra Simpson, and Yvette Simpson as well as a host of nieces, nephews, business associates, and friends.
The family requests flowers or gifts for the family to be sent directly to Walker Funeral Services and/or donations can be made to the Downs Syndrome Association of Greater Cincinnati (https://www.dsagc.com/ways-to-give/) or Compassion International (https://www.compassion.com/ways-to-donate.htm) directed to Lourdes Escarleth Balmaceda in Nicaragua who is Phillip and Marie’s sponsored child.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 12 noon, on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Crossroads Community Church, 3500 Madison Road, Cincinnati (45209). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 12 noon.
