Pecolia Hurst

Pecolia Hurst was born on December 14, 1934, in Hope Hull, Alabama. She was the eleventh of thirteen children born to the union of Josh and Maria Hurst.  

Upon graduation from Calhoun High School, she began work in the health care industry.

Pecolia’s zest for life and all that it offered brought her to Cincinnati, OH where she began a career as a hospital technician at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Mariemont. She served in this capacity for many years with an infectious spirit and a loving heart for her co-workers and patients.

Pecolia also faithfully served as a member of the Usher Board #1 at Rockdale Baptist Church for many years. Her dedication to the Lord to serve in this capacity was apparent as she greeted each member and visitor with a warm smile.
She had a deep love for traveling to visit relatives and friends, shopping, and dressing up in the finest garments for many events.
A devoted Cincinnati Reds fan, it wasn’t surprising to hear that she had taken the bus by herself to enjoy Opening Day festivities or a game over the years.  

Pecolia received her heavenly wings on October 19, 2020.

Pecolia treasured her role as an aunt and godmother to many. She was always there to offer a warm hug, a bright smile, sound advice, and the many opportunities to say yes when a mother or father said no. These children were her pride and joy. To have an opportunity to assist in their upbringing was one of her greatest accomplishments. 1:Peter 4:10 says “ Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms. She used her gifts of love, compassion, and joy to show God’s grace to all that she encountered in her life.

She leaves to cherish her memory her sister Hannah Moore, and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren, and special friends.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on  Monday, October 26, 2020, at the Rockdale Baptist Church, 539 Forest Avenue, Cincinnati  (45229).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Funeral service is private and for family only. Everyone attending must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.

In keeping with the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions masks are required in order to enter  the service and social distancing must be practiced.  Please be prepared to comply for the safety of all.
