Ollie Stewart Obituary

Ollie Stewart, age 84, of Milford, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020 in Cincinnati, Ohio. On November 11, 1935 Ollie Marie Stewart (nee’ Gordon) was born to Louis and Frances Gordon (nee’ Ventus) in Milford, Ohio. Ollie was the seventh of eight children born to this union. Ollie was known as a “firecracker” as a child, she was educated in the MIlford School District and graduated from Milford High School. On April 24, 1954 Ollie was united in Holy Matrimony to James H. Stewart and their union was blessed with one son, Dr. James H. Stewart Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband in December of 2019.

Ollie was an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. She served as a choir member, facilitator of the Junior Guild, Trustee member, member of the Women’s Guild and in any capacity needed by the church until her health declined. Ollie also worked alongside her husband in their own company, Stewart Janitorial.  Ollie was a known sports fan, she loved to play baseball and watch televised baseball and basketball games. Ollie played baseball for the Sunspots and LaRosa’s. She also won several First Place ribbons with the Ebenezer Baptist Church baseball team. Ollie was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and fan of Michael Jordan. Ollie will be remembered for her feisty spirit, love of sports and good cooking, but most of all her fierce love for God and her family.

Ollie transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward on Monday July 27, 2020. Ollie was preceded in death by her parents Louis and Frances Gordon, husband James H. Stewart Sr., Five brothers, Harry (Catherine, Ollie), William (Ruth), Daniel (Lena), Louis (Gevonia), Donald (LenaMae)  and one sister Martha (Leonard). She leaves to cherish her memory, her son Dr. James H. Stewart Jr and daughter-in-law Tamea Stewart, her sister Margaret (Donald) Butler, three grandchildren Christopher, Bukola and Ashley (Sophia), six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

First I want to give thanks to God, my wife Tamea Stewart who is always present to support me in all things and our family. I want to thank my children who have been there for me during this time of need.

I want to acknowledge the  support provided to my mom by my Aunt Margie Butler, cousins Mary Lowe and Carmen Lowe. I also want to thank Ms. Darlene Pointer for her assistance. This is not an exhaustive list.

I want to especially thank my son Christopher, who has taken the leadership role on my behalf since I cannot travel to Cincinnati due to Covid-19 travel restrictions. Thanks to Christopher’s friend Charlie Hyams who has supported Christopher during this  trying time and his friend since high school.

Thank you to everyone who was able to be here, and to those who are here in Spirit and online such as Bukola and Ti-a Stewart and Ashley Myles-Stewart (Sophia Myles) who are unable to be here due to Covid-19 travel and health restrictions,  and those who have had my mother in their prayers.

Finally, my sincere thanks and special appreciation to Brittney Stewart, who collected the information for and drafted the obituary on my behalf. To add to her gracefulness Brittney also helped me prepare the service outline.

Someone once said it takes a village to survive, no one can manage the process on their own.

God Bless,

Dr. Stewart
