Mary L. (Green) Hill was the first child born to Edgar and Mary Green on July 9, 1933. Mary was born in Warrenton, Georgia. Her parents moved to Cincinnati in 1935.
She went through the Cincinnati Public School System graduating from East Vocational High School in June 1951.
On September 15, 1951 Mary married James Hill, Sr. This union was blessed with five children, James, Jr.. John, Jerome, Pamela and Patricia.
She was the first black drapery and slipcovers cutter and seamstress for the Frye Company.
Mary worked over 25 years between Holmes Hospital, Longview State Hospital and Jewish Hospital where she retired.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Mary; husband, James Hill, Sr.; one daughter, Pamela Smith; sons, James Hill, Jr., John Hill and Jerome Hill; brother-in-law, Fred Hill and sister-in-law, Odessa Lee.
She departed this life on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at the age of 85.
Mary leaves to celebrate her memory: daughter, Patricia Hill; daughter-in-law, Deborah; two stepdaughters, Geraldine Wilson of North Carolina and Tricia H,. Lockhart of Georgia; two sisters, Margaret Thomas (Clifford) and Emma Phoenix (Raymond), 12 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, March 23, 2019, at the New Mission Missionary Baptist Church, 4809 Ravenna Street, Cincinnati (45227). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.
