Janet Rutherford Obituary

A Service Of Celebration
For
Janet Aileen (White) Rutherford

Sunrise: July 26, 1935
Sunset: November 22, 2015

Janet Aileen (White) Rutherford was born on July 26, 1935. She transitioned from this life on earth to be with our Lord, Jesus the Christ, on Sunday, November 22, 2015.

Janet was born in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Joseph David White and Carrie Lou (Long) White.
She was the oldest of four children. Her brother Marvin Herbert White preceded her in death.
She grew up in Cincinnati and attended Cincinnati public schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade.

She graduated in 1953 from Withrow High School, Hyde Park Cincinnati. She then attended the University of Cincinnati to take classes in secretary school for a year but due to family she could not complete her studies.

Janet met, loved and married the late Thomas E. Rutherford of Lexington, Kentucky. She always told her story of how she met Thomas. They both worked at Henry Harris dress shop downtown Cincinnati. One day Thomas was at the bottom of the staircase in the store and Janet (a new hiree) was at the top helping a customer and their eyes locked and the rest is history.

Janet attended First Baptist Church of Walnut Hills as well as Greater Liberty Baptist Church Madisonville. She decided at an early age to make Christ her Lord and Savior and joined Greater Liberty Baptist Church. She loved music and sang in the children's and young people's choir, participated in vacation bible school and other things that involed fellowship with young people. In 2006 she came to Mt. Carmel Church of the Redeemed and eventually joined. She will be honored as the first 'Mother' of the this new church in Christ.

Her favorite thing to do was to gather her children around the dinner table and share stories from the Bible. Janet loved her family tremendously and would do whatever she could to help them. Gathering with her family during the holidays was very special to her. If you lived in her house you had to attend all family functions.

This love carried over to the caring for her ailing parents and grandparents. Janet was a shopper of shoppers, but most of alla lover of UNITY!

She leaves to cherish her love: her four children, Marvin D. Rutherford, Deborah (Rutherford) Abdullah (Amin); Mark E. Rutherford, Pamela (Rutherford) Ellis (William) ; seven grandchildren, Ebony (Rutherford) Willis, Brian Ellis, (Traci) Justin Ellis, Joshua Abdullah, Christina Ellis, Rachel Abdullah, Eric (Burton) Rutherford; an adopted grandson Eric Hammonds; three great-grand children, JoAnn 'Jo-Jo' Willis, Arianna Hamilton, Ashtyn Ellis; one aunt Elizabeth Clark; two sisters Carolyn Daniels, Norma Reynolds, two sister-in-laws; Mrs. Vada Moore of Lexington, Ky; Dorothy White of Cincinnati,Ohio a best friend since the age of 13 Mrs. Ida Hammonds; two Withrow classmates and long time friends Audrus Nixon of Cincinnati and Herbie Parker of Fairfield, California, dear friends of the family Mrs. Lillian Lewis, Rowena Samuels, Melvin Lewis and many neices, nephews, cousins and friends.
