Carrie Crutcher Obituary

Carrie Bell Crutcher known to many as Big Mother or Mother Crutcher was 104 years old when she died, November 22, 2014, surrounded by her family, at St. Margaret Hall Nursing Home in Hyde Park, Cincinnati, Ohio.
On July 17, 1910 Carrie was born in Forsyth City, Georgia. Carrie and her siblings later moved to Taliaferro City, Georgia, where she was raised by her grandparents until her grandfather died.
After her grandfather’s death, Carrie moved to Cincinnati, Ohio with her grandmother. Carrie attended Stowe Public School in Cincinnati.
Carrie loved family and started her family at the tender age of 18, when she married Van Grigsby. During their marriage, Carrie and Van had three daughters Marcella, Christine and Juanita. Carrie also loved and cared for Van’s son, Van, as her own.
Later in life, Carrie married Onnie Crutcher Sr. from this union Jerome (Jerry), Tyrone (Terry), Onnie Jr. (Buncie), Richard Allen, Lori Lynn, and Claudia were born.
Carrie had a strong work ethic and loved to work. Her first job was working in a laundry mat, where she later became manager. Fueled by her love of cooking, she changed careers and eventually became one of the head cooks at Holmes Hospital.
After retiring from Holmes Hospital, at age 62, Carrie fed her spiritual need by studying with Jehovah’s Witnesses and was later baptized. Carrie continued to be active in her ministry and service to her God, Jehovah even while confined to a wheelchair.
Carrie was devoted to serving Jehovah and, even after moving to St. Margaret Hall Nursing Home, continued to faithfully attend her meeting and assemblies. On November 8th, 2014, Carrie was privileged to attend the Branch Meeting of Jehovah’s witnesses at her local congregation.
Carrie was preceded in death by her grandparents, siblings, daughter Juanita, first husband Van Grigsby, second husband Nonie Crutcher Sr., Son Jerome (Linda- deceased) Crutcher, grandson Paul Crutcher, and daughter Christine (Willie) Harrison.
She is survived by her daughters; Marcella (James – deceased) Trice, Lori (Larry) Sams, and Claudia Crutcher- Wynn (Archie); by her sons; Tyrone (Sharon) Crutcher, Onnie Crutcher Jr., Richard (Pamela) Crutcher, and stepson Van Stone. Carrie is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and host of others relatives and friends.
Shortly before she died, Carrie told her children that she was peace, that she loved Jehovah, and that she looked forward to seeing us all in the Resurrection. Carrie lived a full and beautiful life, full of love for God, her family and friends, and surrounded by warmth and caring.
