Alma Lee Fannings was born on April 24, 1932 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Mattie and Walter Browner. She grew up in Cincinnati’s West End and attended East Vocational High School.
In 1951 she married Ralph Fannings and to this union, five loving daughters were born: Deborah Ann (Gary) Grace, Demerrice Renee (Chevalier) Thornton, Donna Denise (Keith) Pruett, and Tracy LaShawn (Jeffrey) Dickens. She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Kimberly Ann.
She worked briefly as a domestic before settling into life as a mother and homemaker. In addition to raising her own daughters, she played an integral part in the rearing of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She accepted Christ at a young age and was a member of Jerriel Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years where she enjoyed singing in the choir and volunteering in the soup kitchen. She was a good and faithful servant until her health declined.
Affectionately known as “Sug” to family and close friends, she enjoyed playing cards, shopping, talking on the phone, and watching old TV shows. On the evening of March 6, 2021, she completed the earthly portion of her walk with the Lord. She leaves to mourn four daughters; six grandchildren Tanya, Demetra, Tiffany, Brian, Bridney, and McKenna; two great-grandchildren, Torren and Sanai; and a host of cousins and friends.
Despite her small stature and gentle smile, she was a “force to be reckoned with”, but in a good way. She will live in the hearts of her family and friends who will miss her greatly but are rejoicing in the fact that she is now in the loving arms of God. We are most thankful for the almost 89 years of life God loaned her to us.
