Obituary

Zach was born on July 25, 1979, in Amherst, Ohio.  He leaves behind his mother, Christine, father, William, brothers, Matt and Josh, daughter, Alana, grandmother, Dena Kish, best friend, Jarrid Smith (Smitty) and fiancé, Caitlin Rulli.

At age 22, Zach joined the United States Army and served his country proudly for 10 years and 6 months.  Zach was a Silver Wing paratrooper in the Mighty 1/118th Military Police Airborne Unit.  He was a canine handler; and he and his dog, Lord, searched out IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Zach met Smitty upon being deployed, and they became lifelong friends and served together on two overseas tours.   They became true brothers and soul mates.  They had an amazing bond and supported each other through all of the challenges of war and peace.

Zach was kind, respectful, generous, and witty.   He loved his family and yearned to be with them.  He would tell countless stories of his family and the good times they have had.  Even though they were seldom together in later years, they were never ever far from his heart.  He held them close.

Zach was a son, a father, a brother and a friend to many.  He lived a life of extraordinary courage and generosity and was always willing to give everything he had to help anyone.  Zach carried with him some heavy burdens.  Demons from the horrors of war haunted him and presented daily struggles for him.  His injuries caused him constant pain.  But, no matter what life seemed to throw at him, he never gave up and never stopped trying.  He made us all better people and made the world a better place.  He was an amazing human being and will be deeply missed by all those whose lives he touched. May he rest in peace!
