Share special messages with the Wilson family at www.HerbWalker.com. as the son of William Jefferson Wilson and Carrie Denny-Wilson. He grew up as the youngest among 10 children on a humble tobacco farm in Jabez of Russell Springs, Kentucky. 'Lawrence', as he was known, joined the military during the Korean War when he became of age. When his tour was over, he set out for Illinois, and spent some time with his sister, Berthi. He reported that there was no work there at the time, and that he came to Cincinnati to get a job at the General Motors (Chevrolet), plant where he would work until he retired. Not long after coming to Cincinnati, Lawrence met a girl named Veleda, also known as 'Pretty Polly'. The pair fell in love and wed shortly thereafter. Together they had three children; Larry and the twins Victor and Veleda. The two divorced six years later, but remained close friends throughout their lives until Polly passed away in 2009. Lawrence was a kind hearted man with a whopping sense of humor. He was quiet and although he had his share of trails throughout the years, you might never have known it if you passed him on the street. He loved to be outdoors walking around town and making small talk with almost anyone he met. He despised the winter, and would spend countless hours each evening with his Bible passing his time waiting for spring to come so he could be out walking again. Lawrence leaves behind a daughter, Veleda Stephens; a daughter-in-law who loved him as a Father, Laura; four grandsons, Steven, Matthew, Daniel and Joseph; one granddaughter, Jodi; two step-grandchildren, Joey and Brittany Stephens; and seven great-grandchildren. His legacy also includes a host of friends, neighbors, and a community that he loved since his youth. Our lives will never be the same without him being seen around town in his fedora, smiling at anyone he passed. He was dearly loved and will be dearly missed!
