Obituary

William Lace Sanders was born on February 3,1933 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Robert and Grace Sanders. William departed this life on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Hospice of Cincinnati. The family relocated to Abbeville, South Carolina where he attended and graduated from Abbeville County Training School and attended the St. James AME Church. After relocating to Cincinnati, Ohio, William joined the army in 1953. He served as Military Police and was awarded the "National Defense Service Medal, Army Occupation Medal (Germany), and Sharpshooter (M-1 Rifle)". William completed his tour and was "honorably" discharged in 1956. William began his career with Coca Cola where he retired in 1995. William was affectionately known as "Uncle Hotsie" and Big Red by family and friends everywhere. He loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. "Big Red" bought a good time to all those he encountered.  He spent most of his life in the East End, Walnut Hills and ended his time living in Madisonville where he established many friends. William joined the "Royal Knights 1596" in 1977, which became "Alpha #1", where he maintained his membership until health problems began. William was preceded in death by wife Margaret Goins, parents Robert and Grace Sanders, siblings Eunice (Sanders) Thompson and Robert Sanders; Aunts Janie Rebecca Wynn, Ora Mae Harvey; special niece and nephews: Briana Dunn, Joseph B. Thompson Jr. and David Thompson William loved his family "very" much, he leaves to cherish his fondest memories, sister-in-law Geraldine Sanders, adoring nieces and nephews, Grace (Don) Faulkner, Janie Thompson, Edith (Micheal) Langford, Donna Sanders, Elaine Sanders, Linda  (Larry) Jackson, Janice Harvey White, George Sanders, William (Bill) Sanders, Robert Sanders, James Sanders; cherished nephews David Barber, Joe Thompson III, Jonathan Thompson; God-Son Joe Thompson IV, special grandchildren Donte Goins, Natasha Wise and Nicole Wise; a host of loving relatives and special friends. It is not the length of life, but the depth of life and how you live it..."he did it his way".Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am on Friday, May 8, 2020 at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati  (45206).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.

Interment will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.
