William Gassett, Sr. was born on June 28, 1940, to the late David and Nellie Gassett. He was the third oldest of ten children and was born at the family home on Camargo Road in Madisonville, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Shortly after his birth, the family relocated to Batavia, Ohio, where his father and grandfather built the family home on farmland. William attended Williamsburg Schools and worshipped at House of Jacobs Community Church.

Following in his father's footsteps, William began his career in construction with Local 265, where he faithfully dedicated 44 years of service. He retired on August 1, 1999.

As a young man, William later moved back to Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that he met Evangeline "Joy" Dreux, the woman who would become his lifelong partner and beloved wife.

On April 29, 1960, William and Evangeline were united in marriage. Together, they built a loving home and were blessed with three children. William had a passion for collecting scrap metal, affectionately known as "junk." Because of his love for finding treasure in discarded items, his older brother nicknamed him "Sanford and Son." William never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. His kindness, generosity, and warm spirit touched everyone he met. William also loved watching doo-wop performances on television, Western movies, and Walker, Texas Ranger.

William was preceded in death by his parents, David and Nellie Gassett; his son, William Gassett, Jr.; and his siblings, David Jr., Thomas, Harry, Calvin, Betty, Elmer, and Norman.

He leaves to cherish his loving memory his devoted wife, Evangeline "Joy" Dreux; his children, Jacqueline "Jackie" Gassett and Robert (Kelly) Gassett; his cherished granddaughters, Jessica Gassett, Paulette Robinson, and Paige Smith; his adored great-granddaughter, Ja'nyah "NyNy"; his brother-in-law, Tyrone Jefferson ("Tiny"); his sisters, Alberta ("Linda") Gassett and Rosemary Chambers; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

William will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, generous heart, and willingness to help others. He loved his family deeply, enjoyed collecting scrap metal, and found joy in helping those around him. His legacy of love, hard work, kindness, and generosity will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather from 2:00 pm until 2:30 pm, on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The memorial service will begin at 2:30 pm.
