IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William James
Dickerson, Sr.
January 2, 1940 – April 27, 2018
William J. Dickerson Sr. was surrounded by loving family at his bedside as he departed this life on April 27, 2018. Born on January 2, 1940, to the late Robert and Creola Lewis Dickerson, he was one of fifteen children. William was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church in Ashland, Virginia. William graduated from John M. Gandy High School and attended both North Carolina A&T State University, and Virginia Union University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Sociology. He earned his Master's Degree in Business from the University of Hartford in Connecticut. Artfully integrating the principals of Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People, William was an expert salesman. His professional life began with A&P grocers, followed by a successful eighteen-year sales career with General Foods. He and his family lived in many cities across the country, making lifelong friends along the way. Shortly after transferring to Cincinnati in 1985, he established Goodies Southern Style Barbeque Restaurant and became known across the city as "Mr. Goodie". He reveled in serving the community rib tips and created a specialty barbecue sauce sold in stores around the country. On his 70th birthday, Mr. Goodie received a proclamation from Mayor Mark Mallory declaring January 2, 2010 as "William Dickerson Day." Mr. Goodie was a funny, loving, and giving man. Everyone has a story about him (especially if they worked in his kitchen). He was trusting and gave everyone a chance. Mr. Goodie loved to golf and found the most joy proving that a man of his stature could hit the "long ball" further than anyone taller than him. His hole-in-one at a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, Old Corkscrew, with his West Club buddies was a highlight of his life. Yet, nothing made him prouder than his grandchildren, and he always found an occasion to tell all fourteen of them "You are special." William was predeceased by his former wife and mother of his twin daughters, Bernadine F. Dickerson; four sisters Edith, Hilda, Matilda, and Stella; seven brothers Robert, John, Willie, Joe, Jerry, George, and David. He is survived by his wife and lifelong best friend Myrtle Dickerson; sons William "Jay" Dickerson Jr. , Anthony Dickerson; daughters Creola Dickerson, Freddie Crocheron (Charles), Jamie Randolph (Travis), Jana Jones (Stephen) all of Cincinnati, Ohio; beloved sister Doris Lomack of Ashbury Park, NJ; brothers Raymond Dickerson (Phanetta) of Ocean, NJ, Ernest Dickerson of Neptune, NJ; son-in-law Todd Robinson of Cincinnati, OH; brothers-in-law Cecil Lacy (Carolyn), Ernest Ellis both of Richmond, VA, Kenneth Wright of Lexington, KY; sisters-in-law Mary Lacy of San Diego, CA, Janice Parker of Louisville, KY; 14 grandchildren Robert Callery, Freddie Crocheron, Kahlil Dickerson, Naomi Robinson, Ta'Jana Smith, D'Marco Jones, Toniyah Ward, Darian Robinson, Daryl Jones, Mishaiye-Lee Randolph, Jade Crocheron, Vellatino Crawford, Treluhn Randolph, William Randolph, devoted friend Dave Chrismon and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends. Gathering is from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm, on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at the Abundant Life Apostolic Church, 9545 Winton Road, Cincinnati (45231).
