Wells Goodykoontz, age 71, was born June 3, 1872 in Newbern, Pulaski County, Virginia. He passed away March 2, 1944, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of William McKendree Goodykoontz (1842-1910) and Lucinda Katherine Wootwine Goodykoontz (1849-1931).
He was married to Irene Hooper Goodykoontz (1874-1959).
U.S. Congressman. He attended Oxford Academy, the law department of Washington and Lee University, was admitted to the bar in 1893 and commenced practice at Williamson, West Virginia, in 1894. He was a member of the West Virginia State Senate, (1914-18), president of the West Virginia Bar Association, (1917-18) and was chairman of the central legal advisory board for West Virginia, during World War I. In 1919, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses, serving until 1923. Unsuccessful for reelection, he returned to his law practice and banking interests until his death at age 71.
