Obituary

Wardell Mayfield Sr. born on February 3, 1944, in Danville, Kentucky to Eva L. Mayfield and Moses Mayfield. His family moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He graduated from Taft High School in 1961.

After completing high school, Wardell enlisted in the United States Navy in 1965 where he was assigned to the USS Holland in Charleston, South Carolina. He attained the rank of Petty Officer as an engine mechanic and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal for his four years of service during the Vietnam War.

Wardell was married to Theresa Fairbanks from 1973 to 1999. Together they were blessed with four beautiful children. He took pride in being gainfully employed with the Stevenson Color Company in Cincinnati, Ohio, as a color corrections artist for book and magazine publications for 21 years. He also worked for Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Mason, Ohio, where he retired after 15 years of service. Throughout his career, Wardell did independent maintenance work for residences and hotels in the Cincinnati area.

During his adult years and into retirement Wardell had a love for realism art with a specialty in portraits, oil paintings, wood, and clay figurine creations. He loved working on cars and accumulated a small collection to repair. He really loved all his grandchildren. They were his pride and joy.

Wardell departed this life on March 14, 2021, at the age of 77 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents: Eva Livingston and Moses Mayfield; brother Franklin Mayfield Sr.; half-sister Carol Mayfield; and daughter Dayle (Michael) Heltzer.

Wardell is survived by his children: Wardell (Christine) Mayfield Jr., Beth (Steven) Reeves, and Vanessa (Daniel) Stewart; grandchildren: Elizabeth, Wardell III, Isabella, Sterling, Christopher, Benjamin, Donavan, Kevin, and Ashton; half-brother James (Patricia) Mayfield; half-sister Mary (Mark) Treece; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm, on  Thursday, March 25, 2021, at the Walker Event Center, 3939 Reading Road (Corner of Reading and Paddock), Cincinnati  (45229). Everyone attending must wear a mask and practice social distancing.

Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery, 4521 Spring Grove Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45232.

In keeping with the Covid-19 Pandemic restrictions masks are required in order to enter  the service and social distancing must be practiced.  Please be prepared to comply for the safety of all.
