Obituary

Vivian Lucille (Kress) Lumpkin, a native of Winchester, Indiana, died in Lake Forest, Illinois, on Sunday, March 22, 2015, at the age of 95. Vivian was born in 1919 and was the second child of Chester Kress and Lillie Mae Courtney, and lived in and around Winchester all of her life. Following the death of her husband Byron in 1997, she relocated to Lake Forest, Illinois, in 1998. A graduate of Winchester High School in 1938, Vivian graduated from business college in Muncie, Indiana in 1956, and began work at Anchor Hocking in the office as secretary/stenographer, retiring from Anchor in 1981. She was a member of Eastern Star and active throughout her life in various youth organizations like the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Jobs Daughters. Vivian and her husband Byron were snowbirds after retirement, maintaining a home in Winchester and residing in Tavares, Florida, during the winter months. She loved playing the game of golf and bowled with Barney in mixed league. They were also avid travelers of the USA and Canada pulling their Airstream on both local and extended trips. She was a long-time member of the Main Street Christian Church and practiced her dedication to God throughout her life. After she relocated to Illinois, she became a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Libertyville, Illinois. She loved her family very much and set a wonderful example for her family to follow in their own personal lives. Vivian is survived by; her daughter, Sandra L. Hutson, and son-in-law, Richard W. Hutson of Lake Forest, Illinois; her son, Stephen L. Lumpkin and daughter-in-law, Mary A. Lumpkin of Cincinnati, Ohio; 2 grandchildren, Byron C. Hutson (wife; Jane Hutson), of Wilmette, Il., and Rev. Kristin E. Hutson, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 3 great-grandchildren, Brennan Hutson of Cedar Rapids, and Joe and Amanda Hutson, both of Wilmette, Illinois. Vivian's wish was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at the Main Street Christian Church in Winchester, Indiana, at 1 p.m., on April 18, 2015. There will be a graveside service immediately following the memorial service, at Fountain Park Cemetery in Winchester. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Vivian may be directed to the American Cancer Society , the American Heart Association , or the Main Street Christian Church, 220 S. Main Street, Winchester, Indiana, 47394.
