With heavy hearts and deep gratitude we honor the life of Vernae Fields, a woman of fierce love, quiet strength, and boundless compassion. Vernae lived to care for others, to lift spirits, and to leave the world gentler than she found it. Her presence was a steady comfort, her voice a source of wise counsel, and her arms a refuge for family and friends.

Vernae is lovingly survived by her children: Ronald Crooks, Rodney Crooks, and John Fields III—each a living testament to her love, discipline, and faith.

She is also remembered by her beloved grandchildren (oldest to youngest): Ronald Ray, Keeland Stevenson, Rodney Stevenson, Ronika Stevenson, John Fields IV, JavaUwn Thomas, Fantasia Fields, Jordan Fields, Brent Wheeler, Jasmine Fields, Janelle Fields, Ieaisa Johnson, Armani Fields, Kierson Fields, and Breason Fields. Each carried a piece of her laughter, her lessons, and her enduring heart.

Vernae was born of devotion and family. She was the daughter of Jimmy Crooks and Barbara Jean Crooks, whose guidance shaped the woman she became. She is also survived by her sisters who held her close: Angela Morris, Kimberly Barnett, and Lynn Dodson.

To know Vernae was to know kindness in action. She taught by example—showing how to be resilient in hardship, generous in victory, and steady in love. Her legacy is felt in the daily lives she touched: in shared stories, in quiet traditions, and in the strength of those she raised.

Though we grieve her passing, we celebrate a life full of meaning. Vernae's spirit remains—guiding, comforting, and inspiring. We honor her memory by living with the same courage, generosity, and love she modeled every day.
