Obituary

Veretta Anita Bledsoe, lovingly known by her family and friends as "Podghie," passed away peacefully at the age of 71. Born in Barbourville, Kentucky, and a longtime resident of Cincinnati, Ohio, Veretta was the heart of her family — a kind, funny, and loving woman whose presence brought joy to everyone who knew her.

She was the daughter of the late Betty Whitman and Walter Bledsoe, she was raised by Ralph Whitman and cherished sister of Janet Stone, Kenneth Bledsoe, Odessa Bledsoe, Walter Bledsoe (Sophia Bledsoe), Alice Bledsoe, and Todd Thomas.

Veretta was a devoted mother to Valena Bledsoe and Bettina Davis (JuJuan Davis Sr.), a proud grandmother to Marlena Bledsoe, JuJuan Davis Jr., Christopher Travis Jr., JurNi Davis, and Juream Davis and a joyful great-grandmother to Christiano Elliott. She was also a loving mother to her niece and nephew, Rhonda and Kenneth Bledsoe. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she poured endless love, laughter, and wisdom into their lives.

Veretta had a creative soul and a timeless sense of style. She loved to draw, express herself through fashion, and was known as the family's fashionista, with her own unique flair and confidence. She also had a deep love for animals, especially elephants and hummingbirds. Her favorite color was purple, and she cherished roses.

Known for her radiant smile and warm heart, Veretta had a gift for making everyone around her feel seen and loved. She enjoyed music and dancing — especially to The Temptations and The Five Heartbeats — moments her family will forever cherish and remember with smiles.

Veretta's faith was important to her; she attended First Baptist Church from an early age. She graduated from Hughes High School and worked at KD Lamp, Kenner's Toys, Libel Shine (medical equipment), and Associates of the Blind throughout her life, touching everyone she met with her kindness and dedication.

Her legacy of love, strength, creativity, and joy will continue to live on through her children, grandchildren, great -grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and all who were blessed to know her.
