Obituary

Velma Ann Stokes Heard was born August 3, 1946, in Derby, Virginia to the late Robert and Etta Stokes. She passed away at 4:45 a.m., Tuesday, May 28, 2013. She departed this life after a long illness in her home surrounded by her loving family at age 66. At the age of eight, Ann moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, and attended Cincinnati Public Schools. She went on to graduate from Robert A. Taft High School in the class of 1965. Ann was united in Holy Matrimony to Freddie Heard on May 23, 1978. To this union four beautiful children were born: Kevin, Sherrie, Keith, and Kenneth. Ann worked various jobs which included Longview State Hospital, U.S. Play Cards, and Jackson Adult Center. In 1979 Ann joined the Greater Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where she and Fred were baptized by the late Pastor H. M. Smith. Ann was a fun-loving, generous mother, sister and friend who always brought joy to others. She loved playing cards, sewing, watching movies, and crocheting. She will be always remembered for her kindness, grace and her love of the beautiful things in life. She has instilled those same qualities in her loved ones and they will be forever grateful. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Etta Stokes; son, Kenneth; brother, "Peete". She leaves to mourn in her passing her loving and devoted husband of 39 years, Freddie; her children, Kevin and his wife Michele, Sherrie, and Keith; sisters, Linda Bonner and her husband, Johnnie, Pamela Fannon and her husband, Larry; brothers, Donnie, Dwight and his wife, Naomi; grandchildren, Nicholas, Eric, Maya, and Aron; her loving life friend, Mrs. Freddy Adkins; her adopted sisters, Clarissa, Cheryl, Sandra, Edwina, Carrie, and Shawn Johnson, the Eubanks, Hunter, and Kirby families. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, June 1 at Greater Fellowship Baptist Church, 505 Liberty Street, Cincinnati (45202). Pastor Mark Hawkins Sr will officiate. Interment will follow service at Spring Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers: Donnie Stokes, Dwight Stokes, Marvin Kirby, Nick Stokes, Kevin Stokes, and Nicholas Stokes. Honorary Pallbearers: Keith Heard and Eric Albright. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Greater Fellowship Baptist Church, 505 Liberty Street, Cincinnati (45202) until hour of service.
