IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tommy G.
Smith Sr.
February 28, 1947 – June 15, 2013
Tommy G. Smith, Sr., affectionately known as 'Rocky J' was born February 28, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the union of Susie B. Williams-Smith and Casey Smith. He was the oldest of three children born to this union. He attended Cincinnati Public Schools, including Ach and Hughes. He also attended Barber School. He spent his early years working with Hebrew Union College and Fischer Body (GM). Later, he worked for the 7th Step Foundation where he met and was married to Cynthia Garner-Smith in 1979. This union was blessed with a son Tommy G. Smith, Jr., who was his pride and joy. He also worked very well with children and spent over 15 years working with the youth of Cincinnati at Beech Acres. Tommy was a devoted father and son. After his mother's untimely death he made it a priority to care for his father. He was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan, liked to fish, and spent many of his Saturdays assuring that Tommy Jr. made it to all of his Little League Baseball games. Tommy was very proud of his only son and namesake. He often told people about his accomplishments; such as his college experiences and growth into manhood. Although, Tommy was a very private person, he took pride in sharing the accomplishments of his only son. They shared their name and their love for dogs; they both had a Boxer (Candy & Apollo) whom he loved dearly. On June 15, 2013, Tommy transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home surrounded by close family and friends who loved him. He is survived by his son Tommy Smith Jr. and his Fiance Akai Young of Nashville, Tennessee, siblings; Sharon 'Cookie' Daniels, Fredrico Smith and Eric Smith; Ex-wife and friend Cynthia Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Services 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 22 at ST. MARK AME ZION CHURCH, 9208 Daly Road, Cincinnati (45231) with Rev. K. Z. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
