Obituary

Ms. Tommie LaVerne Prophett was born April 26, 1947 to the union of Tommie Hamman and Alean Sherrill Hammond. She was born an only child but was raised in a house with her cousins that she grew up with and loved her as their sibling. LaVerne departed this earthly life to be with the Lord on December 15, 2017. LaVerne was born in a family of faith and she accepted Christ at a young age at the Bible Way Church of God under the pastoral leadership of Pastor Abraham Swanson, XII. LaVerne always remained close with the Lord. For over ten years, she has been a member of The House of Praise where Pastor Lawrence McNickles was her pastor. LaVerne graduated from Central High School and it was there that she met her first love, Edward Prophett. They married in 1966. LaVerne worked for Proctor and Gamble for many years. But because she had such a caring heart and gentle spirit, her career path changed; she became a childcare home provider for over 15 years. Even through retirement as a provider, she never stopped taking care of others. LaVerne was known for her kind heart, gentle words and beautiful personality which enlarged her circle of friends. To know her was to love her. We can proudly say she made an everlasting impression on everyone she met with open arms, a welcoming smile and a gentle demeanor. Her positive vibes and beautiful hair and smile is what family and friends will remember most.
