Mrs. Susie Behling Brown, Mother of Entertainer, James Brown, 87, died Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Augusta Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Augusta, Georgia Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Bamberg, South Carolina. Interment will be in Walker Memorial Park Cemetery, Augusta, Georgia. Rev. George Manigo will be the Eulogist. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. Viewing for the public will be on Monday, March 1, 2004 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. A wake will be held from 7 - 8 p.m. Friends may call at the residence of her sister, Mrs. Jettie Loadholt and her nephew, Mr. James Carter both of 163 Wren Drive, Bamberg, South Carolina and at the funeral home. Funeral Services are entrusted to the Johnson-Dash Funeral Home of Bamberg, South Carolina. Mrs. Susie Behling Brown began her start of a legacy in Colleton County, South Carolina on August 8, 1916 and ended her legacy on February 26, 2004. Susie B. Brown was the daughter of the late Monnie and Rebecca Bryant Behling. Susie embarked upon her educational quest in the Colleton County and Bamberg County Public School System. She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. Joseph Brown and to this union one son was born. Having been reared in a warm and Christian home, Susie sought spiritual guidance and enrichment at an early age and joined the former Prospect United Methodist Church, which is now Hickory Hill United Methodist Church, located in Smoak, South Carolina. Later, Susie moved to Brooklyn, New York, and attended Behling Holy Temple Church where she served faithfully. While living in New York, Susie worked as a seamstress at the Garment District of New York. After retiring, Susie relocated to South Carolina to be with her family and friends. Susie gave of herself wherever and whenever she was needed and wanted. Her life was centered around helping others in any way that she could. Although Susie 's presence will be no more, she will always be remembered in our hearts for the love and kindness that she has always shown. Mrs. Brown is survived by a loving son, James Brown of Beech Island, South Carolina; three granddaughters, Deanna (Shawn) Thomas of Beech Island, S.C., Yamma (Darren) Lumar of Atlanta, Georgia and Venisha Brown of Augusta, Georgia; four grandsons, Terry (Dahilia) Brown of Toccoa, Georgia, Larry Brown of Augusta, Georgia, Daryl (Stacy) Brown of Augusta, Georgia and James Joseph Brown II of Beech Island, South Carolina; great-grandchildren, LaTonya Brown, Folando Brown, Romanza Brown, Lindsey Brown, Jason Brown, Janise Brown, Sydney Lumar and Carrington Lumar; three great-great-grandchildren, Saquoia Walton, Chelsea Woolfolk and Chandler Fritz; one sister, Jettie Loadholt of Bamberg, South Carolina; one brother, James Earl (Henrietta) Behling of Bamberg, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews , cousins and friends.
