Obituary

Sue Ella Steele entered the world on December 17th, 1929, as a blessing to the union of George and Maggie Colvin Shambley in Eutaw, (Greene County) Alabama. She graduated from Greene County Training School and afterward studied at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  While studying at Stillman, she met Allen William Andrew Steele and they later married in Lima, Ohio in 1951.  They were blessed with two children, Larry Andrew and LaCheryl Ann. After Andrew's Army discharge, they settled in Cincinnati, Ohio, joining her sisters and brother and their families.  Sue and Andrew were married for seventeen years until Andrew's untimely death in 1968.

As a single parent, Sue returned to school to study nursing, and retired from Cincinnati General Hospital as a Licensed Practical Nurse, after 26 years of service. Following retirement, Sue remained active and engaged in her community; knitting blankets for babies in the pediatric intensive care, participating on bowling teams, and enjoying water aerobics classes.

As a Christian, Sue lived out her faith daily. A caregiver at heart, she reached out to neighbors who were ill and disabled and extended assistance and friendship. People of all ages were drawn to her kind and loving spirit. Sue was a faithful member and tireless servant of God at Salem Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cincinnati for over 30 years. She served as an usher and member of the Mother's Board, assisted with Sunday school, was instrumental in fundraising for church improvements, and contributed wherever there was a need.

Her legacy of dignity and strength remain alive through her son Larry Andrew Steele (Sharon), her daughter LaCheryl Ann Steele, sister Helen S. Jones (John), granddaughter Chavon Steele Hall (Robert), grandson Aaron Steele (Anna), great-granddaughters Zoe and Ava Steele, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.

The Kingdom of God has indeed extended through the life of Sue Ella Steele. We are all richer for having been touched by her exemplary life.
