Steven “Steve” Brookins was born on August 15, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to the late John and Jessie Brookins. He was a beloved brother to Yvonne and Betty, and an uncle, cousin, and friend.

Steve was a proud graduate of Withrow High School. He worked at U.S. Shoe for many years until his retirement.

Steve loved the simple things that brought him joy. He loved cooking and grilling and enjoyed working on and restoring cars. He especially loved racing cars and attending car shows, and he even enjoyed drag racing. In his younger years, Steve also enjoyed roller skating, making memories, and having a good time.

With many interests, Steve loved Star Trek, old movies, and smooth jazz. Whether he was working on a car, preparing something on the grill, enjoying a favorite movie, or simply spending time with family and friends, Steve had a way of enjoying life on his own terms.

Steve leaves behind his nephew and niece, Antonio and Jerika, along with his cousins and longtime friends, who will cherish his memory. Among those who will remember him are Barry Harkness, Darren Harkness, Calvin Harkness, Theo Taylor, Everette Howard, and Dwight Jackson, along with many others whose lives he touched.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.

Interment will follow at Spring Grove Cemetery.
