Shirley Berfield, born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on July 3, 1948, to the union of Inell and Rufus Smith. Shirley attended Garfield School and grew up in South Cumminsville.

Shirley had two kids before marrying Eugene Berfield, Lamont and Angela Smith. They then welcomed Sophia Berfield.

Shirley loved to go for walks around downtown in Cincinnati, listen to music, dance, attend family functions, laugh, and enjoy life. Shirley dedicated over 35 years of service to UC and later retired.

To cherish her memories, she leaves behind her beloved children, Lamont Smith, Angela Smith, and Sophia Berfield. Her grandkids: Satin Sanders, Archie Sanders, Gabriel Ferguson, De'Asca Long, Erend Long, Dustin Overstreet, her nephew Justin, and De'Ire Brown.

She was blessed to have a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family she loved unconditionally.

We want to thank all those who helped, prayed, came out, and were there for us. We appreciate you all.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am. She will be laid to rest at Vine Street Hill Cemetery, 3701 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45220.
