IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sherry Lynn
Burgess
March 18, 1961 – September 10, 2025
Sherry Lynn Burgess was born on March 18, 1961, to proud parents Shirley Ann and Charles Burgess in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sherry was the fourth of nine children. She departed this life for her heavenly home on September 10, 2025.
Sherry received her formal education in the Cincinnati Public School System. Sherry obtained her diploma from Withrow High School in 1979. Shortly after high school, Sherry enrolled at the University of Cincinnati and remained there until she graduated with an associate degree in Medical Technology. Sherry worked as a Health Unit Coordinator at University Hospital for 25 years, retiring from the position.
Sherry "Cissy or Duck" as she was affectionately known to her family and friends, was a kind and compassionate person. Sherry had a strong faith in God and was a spiritual person, mainly due to her upbringing at Zion Temple First Pentecostal Church. Sherry always spoke her mind and would tell you how it was, with no hesitation. She had a great love for her family and friends; to be loved by Sherry was a treasure. If you needed anything, she would give you her last and the shirt off her back. Sherry was a loving and devoted mother to her son, Uquavis Hawthorne, and a grandmother to her six grandchildren: Rae'mya Stallworth, Ka'mya Stallworth, Maryah Stallworth, Jaquez Hawthorne, Uquavis Hawthorne Jr., and Maverick Hawthorne, who will continue to cherish her memory.
Sherry was preceded in death by both her parents Shirley Ann and Charles Burgess, her two sisters Michelle Burgess, Jacqueline Burgess and brother Jerome Burgess; Best friend/sister Rita Logan; Maternal grandparents Beatrice and Saul B. Henderson; paternal grandparents Dora and Neblitt Burgess; aunts Tonya D. Brady, Elaine Henderson; uncles Leon Henderson, Weroth Burgess, Huston Burgess, Eugene Burgess, Tommy Burgess, Leroy Burgess, Willie Allen Jr., and Thomas Garrison; nephews: Michael Burgess, Thomas Bronaugh III and Rayshun Logan.
Sherry also leaves to cherish her memory, three sisters, Karen Y. Burgess, Linda R. Burgess and Sandra M. Burgess; Two brothers: Charles T. Burgess and Anthony W. Burgess; Nieces: Eboni Kennedy, Kimberly Twyman, Endia Benton, Olivia Benton, Ayesha Burgess, Alaina Burgess and Riunita Logan; Nephews: Charles Burgess Jr., Benjamin Kennedy II, Brent Burgess, and Anthony Burgess Jr.; Aunts: Evangelist Virginia B. Allen, Dr. Marcia D. Garrison, Janis Henderson; Uncles: Winston Henderson, Dr. Clyde Henderson, Tony Brady and Wallace Burgess. A host of great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, and friends who will always carry her in their hearts.
