Shellerie B.
Merritt
December 23, 1929 — May 30, 2026
Shellerie B Burt was born to the union of Charles Burt and Alice (Puckett) on December 23, 1929, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the seventh of eleven children.
Shellerie accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful servant at St. Mark Methodist Church. St Mark merged and later became New Vision United Methodist Church. She always let her light shine and loved to praise the Lord. She was a faithful choir member, visited the sick and shut-in, she had a passion for children and enjoyed working with them. If anything needed to be done at the church, she would graciously lend a helping hand.
Shellerie was a devoted wife to her husband, Michael M. Merritt, Sr. Together, they were blessed with 56 years of marriage. They were truly one, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Shellerie was a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crocheting. An excellent cook, she was especially known for her homemade rolls and spoon bread.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael M. Merritt, Sr., one son, Bryant Merritt; her parents, Charles and Alice Burt; and her siblings, Peyton, Leona, Charles, Bill, Robert, Leon, Gertrude, Mary Ann, and Alice Jean.
Shellerie leaves behind one son, Michael M. Merritt, Jr. (Darlene); Jacquetta Henderson; six grandchildren, Myla Merritt, Tanicia Johnson, Michael Barwick, Sr. (Tara), Bryant Merritt, Jr., William Merritt, and Micah Merritt; one sister, Alene Bridges; brother-in-law, Steven Walker (Brenda); daughter-in-law, Delores Merritt Brown; 17 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Her gentle nature, beautiful smile, and loving spirit will be missed by many.
