IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shekeeta
Menzise
June 9, 1964 – November 24, 2020
Shekeeta aka "Skeeta," was born June 9th, 1964, to Juanita and Maurice Menzise.
Beginning work with the Jewish Vocational Services (Eastern Seals) in the early 70s, Shekeeta remained active and in service her entire life. Not many people can say they have a relative who participated in the Special Olympics, winning many medals and ribbons, like we can. She lived an amazing and spirit-filled life.
Shekeeta was instrumental in the lives of three generations of her cousins, nieces, and nephews. Not only was she devoted to her family, but she loved them unconditionally. Shekeeta was also a protective factor for those in her care. She had a very youthful disposition. She often would be playing made up spontaneous games and talking "smack" with her younger nephew, or she would be singing Michael Jackson with her niece, and dancing with cousins. She also liked to engage in intense games like "Uno" with her sister and her great nieces and nephews. Shekeeta was also known to be extremely generous and self-less. If you didn't receive a birthday or Christmas gift from anyone, you could depend on one from Shekeeta. She was highly observant and would almost magically read what a person needed, and mysteriously provide it; without ever being asked. Her memory was sharp as a whip; she could often tell you, word for word, what was said, and by whom. Shekeeta has an amazing and beautiful soul, and is loved and respected by all that she blessed with her presence. Shekeeta was also known for her confidence and sense of humor. She had a collection of "sayings" that spoke to how she was feeling any particular day. These would eventually end up on t-shirts that she proudly wore. One of her favorites was, "Don't Hate Me Because I'm Beautiful." Shekeeta loved a good song, and found favorites among Bobby Brown, New Edition, Michael Jackson, and Lionel Richie. She was far from shy when it came to singing. Whenever her jam came on, she would literally sing like no one was listening. When it came to watching television, Shekeeta invented the concept of binge watching. Her favorite show was Law and Order SVU; she would watch reruns all day if you let her.
Shekeeta is now an Ancestor to her still living relatives including five older siblings: Vernon Davis, Wanda Davis, Harold Hayes, Renee Menzise, and Tangela Menzise; seven nieces and nephews: Crystal, Ronnie, Shanie, Nakesa, Jeffery, Wahid, and Toshihero; and a host of close and distant cousins, aunts, uncles, great nieces, nephews, and friends. She is and will continue to be greatly missed.
