Sara Ann Shafer Oil City High School (Pennsylvania) teacher dies at age 91
Sara Ann Shafer, formerly of Oil City, Pennsylvania, age 91 died Monday February 14, 2022 in Paintsville, Kentucky. She was born January 21, 1931 to the late Bernard and Helen McClandlass Dickenson. Sara taught Geography and History at Rocky Grove and English and History at Venango County Vocation Technical School. She was a member of the Mayo Methodist Church.
After graduating from OCHS in 1948, She married Lawrence Shafer in 1949 who preceded her in death. She received her B.S. in English and Social Studies from Clarion University and her Masters in English from Edinboro University and a Doctorate in English. For many years she was active in Rouseville Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron She is survived by one son Dr. Lawrence Shafer of Hollywood, FL, one daughter Dr. Diana Shafer of Paintsville, two brothers: John Cunningham (Martha) of Erie, PA, William Cunningham (Carolyn) of Pembrooke Pines, FL, one sister: Neena Van Camp of Athens, TN, 1 grand Sara Teresa Shafer of Louisville, KY. A private graveside services will be held Saturday at the Wells Buckingham Cemetery in Paintsville, KY.
