Obituary

Sandra (Fannon) Flowers was born on November 10, 1946, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Wallace Sr. and Clara Odessa (Woods) Fannon. She departed this life on March 5, 2026, to join the Lord.

Sandra was the third of 13 children and the first daughter in the family. All of her siblings lovingly called her “Sister”. She attended Sands and Evanston Elementary Schools. She later attended Withrow High School, where she participated in several clubs, including the archery club. She graduated in 1966.

On August 24, 1968, Sandra married Robert Flowers. Their union was blessed with three children, April, Alaysia, and Robert. They shared 50 years of marriage before he was called home in 2018.

Sandra was an active and dedicated member of New St. John Baptist Church, where she was baptized on November 19, 1972, by the late Reverend Robert Flowers. During her years of service, she held many roles under Reverend James E. Pankey's leadership. She served as the corresponding secretary, assisted the treasury, provided giveaway gifts for church events, and founded the “Snack Shack.” She also served faithfully on the usher board for 43 years. She really enjoyed helping to maintain the church bulletin boards with her fellow church members.

Sandra worked as an STNA at several hospitals before beginning her long career at Drake Hospital. She worked there for more than 21 years before retiring in 2011. She took pride in helping others and cared deeply for the people she served.

Sandra stayed active in her children’s lives. She served as a Girl Scout troop leader, worked with the PTO, and volunteered as a room mom at the school. She also enjoyed sewing and often made clothes for her daughters and others.

Sandra loved shopping and was always on the lookout for a good bargain! If someone mentioned they needed something, she made it her mission to find it.

Sandra wholeheartedly believed in giving back to her community. She volunteered with many organizations, including Bethany House, Matthew 25: Ministries, Queen Bee, and the Flying Pig Marathon.

Sandra enjoyed dancing, watching movies, and traveling. In recent years, she also enjoyed spending time with the Springdale Senior Club. Most of all, she cherished time with her family. She was truly one of a kind. She always wore a smile and was willing to lend a helping hand whenever and wherever it was needed. She left an impression on everyone she met and will be truly missed by so many.

Preceding Sandra in death were her husband, Robert G Flowers; her parents, Wallace Sr. and Clara Fannon; brothers, Wallace Jr, Larry, Ronald, and Michael Fannon; sisters, Arlene “Toni” Fannon, Lavenia “Lulu” Bartleson, and Brenda Little; and granddaughter, Kenzie Spurlock-Flowers.

Sandra’s memory will be cherished by her daughters, April Flowers and Alaysia (Anthony) Davis, and her son, Robert (Jamie) Flowers. Grandchildren: Markeith (LaMaria) Brock, Khalil Helmes, Makalya Helmes, Katriel Spurlock, and Rheece Flowers. Great-grandchildren: Markeith Jr, Makiyah, Makari, Ken’yā, and Dahlia.
