Obituary

Ruth Carolyn Macke June 27, 1938 - September 5, 2022

Ruth transitioned into spirit peacefully at Kenwood HealthCare Center after complications from a fall on her 84th birthday in June.

She was a 1956 graduate of Mother of Mercy High School and was employed at the Cincinnati Time Recorder company. She then moved to southern California in 1968 for 30 years, enjoying sightseeing and travel with friends and employment at Orange Coast College. Moving back to Cincinnati in 1998, she resided in Norwood for 24 years, with the company of family near by.

An avid Scrabble player, Ruth enjoyed socializing throughout her life. Her hearing loss and other health problems did not deter an unwavering cheerfulness and sense of humor.  She loved a glass of chardonnay and a cat on her lap. She had a constant regard for the welfare of others, and a love for animals. Despite being extremely frugal in regard to herself, she regularly donated to charities, including Children's International. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels for years, and also for the Cincinnati Association for the Blind, until her health prevented it. The daughter of Wilbur and Elizabeth Heckler Macke, Ruth leaves behind siblings Roger Macke, Richard Macke (Miriam) and Sylvia Kauffman (Ronald), niece Dr. Jennifer Gigax (Michael), nephew Kenneth Macke, great nephews Bradley, Matthew and Ryan Gigax, and many cousins. Dear friend of Rose Kelley and the late JoAnn Coors. Thank you to Joe & Ruth Cissell for their kindness the past few years.

In spite of her disabilities, Ruth tried her best. Her quite unique expression of spirit will be missed.

In accordance with her wishes, there will be no funeral services.

A warm thank you to staff and nurses at Kenwood HealthCare Center, and Hospice of Cincinnati. To share a memory of Ruth or leave a special message for the Macke family, please click the "Tribute Wall" tab above and to the right, enter the information, and click "Save Post."
