Roy William Pettijohn, age 79, entered eternal rest on August 6, 2013. Friends may call Thursday, August 15 from 10:00am at Clifton 7th Day Adventist Church, 3800 Clifton Ave., 45220 until time of service at 11:00 am. Interment Crown Hill Memorial Park. Roy William Pettijohn was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 29, 1934. He was the second child born to John and Marjorie Jackson Pettijohn. On the morning of August 6, 2013 he transitioned into his heavenly home surrounded by family. Roy's formative years were spent in the East End of Cincinnati, Ohio. He was educated in the Cincinnati Public School system. At the age of 18 he began work for the City of Cincinnati. He retired after 30 years of service without one late or missed day. After retirement, he worked for the local school transportation system for 27 years. He was as loyal to his employer as he was to his family and friends. In 1965, Roy met and fell in love with Katherine (Howell) Pettijohn. They married and raised a blended family with eight children. Out this union two children were born; Lisa and Katrina Pettijohn. Out of his first marriage four children were born; Teressa, Antoinette, Roy Jr., and Jeffery Pettijohn. He assumed fatherhood of two children; Barbara and Anthony Collins. He was a devoted and loving father to all of his children. Roy was a man of many interests including; fishing, gardening, traveling, and collecting antiques, sports, family gatherings, and storytelling. He loved gospel music and was a baritone in a Quartet, which played in many churches throughout the city. He had an amazing voice. Roy enjoyed reading the local paper to stay abreast of community activities. He loved pets and gave home to several animals throughout his lifetime. Above all Roy was a 'fixer'. If there was a problem he fixed it whether it be cars, houses, finances, or relationships. He was always there to listen, offer support and provide honest advice. He received Christ at an early age and later joined the Clifton Seventh Day Adventist Church with his wife, Katherine Pettijohn. Roy was preceded in death by both of his parents; brothers, John and Wilbur 'Sonny' Pettijohn; son, Jeffrey Alan Pettijohn of Los Angeles, CA (Muriel); mother-in-law, Mary Elizabeth Howell; brothers-in-law, Bobby and Willie Howell. Roy leaves to cherish many loving memories, his beloved wife of almost 50 years Katherine; children, Teressa Pettijohn, Barbara Collins, Antoinette Pettijohn of Los Angeles, CA, Roy Pettijohn Jr. of Los Angeles, CA, Anthony Collins, Lisa Pettijohn Waller, Katrina Pettijohn Jones; sister, Rosalee McSwain; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dixon; brothers-in-law, Clarence Howell (Mildred), Curtis Howell (Esther), Wylie Howell; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
