IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosie Mae
(Fountain) Cunningham
May 16, 1921 – November 13, 2018
A steadfast heart that trusted in the Lord. A woman that taught her children the ways of the Lord, nurtured her sons with the love of Christ. Disciplined with care and wisdom and trained them in the Way they should go. This was the wonderful life of Rosie Mae Cunningham.
Rosie was born in Tunnel Springs, Alabama to the late Lelia and Major Fountain on May 16, 1921. She was preceded in death by three of her four sons…Robert Earl, James Melvin and Major Harry. She was raised with thirteen sisters and brothers (Annie Sue, Grover Lee, Carlean, Willie, Major, Brownie, Shellie, Dewitt, Mattie Ruth, Gussie Mae, James Marion, Margaret), and one surviving sister, Mary Ola in Los Angeles, California. She began her walk with God at an early age at Antioch Baptist church in Tunnel Springs, Alabama.
She married Robert Earl Cunningham Sr. on September 4th, 1943 and had 4 sons.
Rosie loved her sons, she encouraged their musical gifts by helping them establish a singing group by the name of The Cunningham Brothers.
Brothers Robert and DuWayne played guitars and James and Major blended their voices together. They all sang throughout Cincinnati churches, special events, radio and T.V. programs.
When moved to Cincinnati, she joined the Rockdale Baptist Church. Later, her spiritual journey led her to the congregation of the Revival Temple Church of God, where she served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and devoted herself to leading others to Christ.
She was employed and loved by the McSwain family for many years.
She received a certificate of completion from the Temple Bible College, as she felt this would expand her knowledge of the Bible.
Several years ago, she joined the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Healthy, where she enjoyed the Sunday school and fellowship of her new church.
Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, crocheting and ceramics.
She often told of her healing of cancer in 1987, as she rested in her favorite chaise lounge. A true testament of her faith in God.
Though it is difficult to say goodbye, we are encouraged and will remember her strong faith, forever.
Continuing her loving legacy: Her devoted son, DuWayne and devoted daughters-in-law, Sharon, Dawn Ella and Karyl. Her sister: Mary Ola Penn. Six grandchildren: (Robyn Glover, Adrienne Mixon (Adam), Eric Cunningham (Letecia), Paul Cunningham, Tiffany Unger (Jason), and Gregory Cunningham), nine great-grandchildren, and a great-great grandchild. And many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
