Obituary

Rosetta Denice (Chappell) Jones was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ. Born to the union of Charles Timothy Chappell, Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth Pettis on March 3rd, 1961, at St Mary’s Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the youngest daughter out of twelve children. God called her home on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 4:40 pm, after almost a two-year fight against stomach cancer, at the age of 65. This was not her first journey with cancer, as she was a twelve-year breast cancer survivor, a triumph that she was so very proud of.

She had a colostomy procedure on February 4, 2026, due to the cancer. We got released from the hospital on February 14th. Five days later, we had an appointment with her oncologist's office, only to be greeted with the news that she only had 6-8 weeks to live. Despite all this news and the road she had already been down, her first response was, "DEATH IS JUST A PART OF LIFE". Whenever anyone asked how she was doing, she would say, "GOD'S GOT ME".

In her early years, Denice attended various schools growing up in Addyston, Ohio, and the West End of Cincinnati, Ohio. She had her first child at an early age, Luke Kennedy Chappell, by Luke Moore. They moved to San Mateo, California, for a few years. After moving back to Cincinnati, Ohio, they had Sarah and Jeremy Chappell.

Rosey and I met in 1994, while she was working for Osbourne Coinage and Doran Manufacturing Company, and I was working a temporary job for them, as a huge favor to a friend of mine. We raised a blended family with my daughter, Makedah Renee (Jones) King. We joined hands and were married on May 27, 2000. I am always proud to say that we have four kids, fourteen grandkids, and five great-grandkids!!!

Later in life, with my encouragement and support, she went for and received her GED in her 40's. She was an extremely hardworking woman. After many years at Orbourne and Coinage, she went on to work for Kroger's, Sanmar, Chester Labs, JCPenney's, H & R Block, and Jackson Hewitt. Rosey volunteered for 20 years at the Reds Stadium with our organization, the Jones Family Foundation, and in 2013 became a valued employee of ClarkDietrich. She always bragged about her company and her co-workers at ClarkDietrich, where she was the Accounts Payable Team Lead until her passing.

She joined Good News Baptist Church (Pastor - Rev. Jerome Byrd, Sr.) about twenty-three years ago. She was one of the lead singers in the choir. She was a proud member of WMU (Women's Missionary Union), worked in the food pantry mission as well as with the hospitality mission.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Charles and Sarah Chappell; brothers: Alfonso Chappell, Kary Chappell, Sr., Keith Chappell, and Joseph Mallory; and sisters: Patricia Snicey and Candace Collins.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband of almost 26 years Darryl Jones; four kids: Luke Kennedy "Bud" Chappell, Sarah Clarissa "Pumpkin" Chappell, Jeremy Lamar Chappell (Justine), Makedah Renee King (Andre'us); fourteen grandkids: Jhalesa Chappell, Dawnshae Walker, Yamaya Chappell, Brielle Powell, Keir Harrell, Jr., Kai'Ayre Harrell, De'Ondrea Chambers, Jr., Aaden Chappell, Amare Chappell, Aurelia Chappell, Makaed'us King, Deron McDonald, Jr., Masai King, Makari King; five great-grands: Lu'shae, Jhaliyah, Damonie, Yamauri, Raynne; siblings: Daisy King of Boston, Massachusetts, Alice Johnson (Bobby), Charles Chappell, Jr. (Brenda), Ruby Samuels (Benny), Mary Ann Caldwell (Larry); mother-in-law: Princess Carter (whom she lovingly called ma); sister-in-law: Karen Hill (whom she called sister); aunts; uncles; in-laws; and a massive host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, church members, and co-workers.

She enjoyed reading true crime books about serial killers. She kind of scared me the first time I saw her book collection. Some of her favorite shows included "Murder, She Wrote", "Perry Mason", "Golden Girls", and "Matlock" (with Andy Griffith). We enjoyed traveling together all over the United States, Hawaii, the Caribbean, Paris, London, and have been on 16 cruises. She deeply enjoyed spending Saturdays with her sisters running to various casinos.

The week before she passed, March 11-16th, I took her, the kids, the grands, and the great-grands to the Drury Inn and Suites for five days. We celebrated her 65th birthday, Mother's Day, Christmas, our 26th anniversary, and Easter. I surprised her and everybody else with gifts, food, prizes, our wedding video, family videos, and a lifetime keepsake of a bunny rabbit with Rosey on one ear and 2026 on the other. Those five days she had a ball and was so grateful and thankful for everybody, as am I. It was truly a memory we will have forever.

I want to first thank God for His guidance, direction, love, strength, and power. I want to thank my company, Primerica Financial Services, and the Primerica Life Insurance Company. The term life insurance policy she was covered with has and will make a huge impact on my life and the lives of our four kids, fourteen grandkids, and five great-grandkids. I also especially thank her employer, ClarkDietrich, for all that they have done for her and our family. I thank the Hospice of Cincinnati in Blue Ash for their loving and tender care of us.

Lastly, I want to thank and appreciate all of the family, friends, church members, and co-workers for the condolences, cards, gifts, and well wishes. In the ever so powerful words of Rosetta Denice Jones... "DEATH IS A PART OF LIFE" and "GOD'S GOT ME."
