IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rose Ann
Nichols
December 27, 1923 – October 20, 2014
God had a plan for our mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Rose Ann Nichols quietly closed her eyes on Monday, October 20, 2014. Rose Ann Nichols was born in Lilley, Louisiana on December 27, 1923 to the late Cordie and Clara Phillips. She was the 3rd child of 10 children. She was preceded in death by her husband Phillip Nichols Jr.; daughter Dorothy Ewing; four sisters: Olla Mae Phillips, Grace Phillips-Smith, Velma Phillips-Roberts, Ruby Phillips-Roberts; two brothers: Arvin and Earl Phillips; granddaughter: Nanette Nichols and great granddaughter Ravyn Denise Johnson. Rose Ann accepted Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized at St. Timothy Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop, Louisiana, as a young girl. On January 10th 1948, Rose Ann was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, the late Phillip Nichols Jr. From this union came six girls, Dorothy (deceased), Jessie, Linda, Rose, Robin, Janet and one son James. She was a loving wife to her husband as well as a loving mother to her children and grandchildren. Upon her arrival to Cincinnati from Hot Springs, Arkansas, Rose Ann joined New Unity Baptist Church where she served as a member of the missionaries. She remained a faithful member until she was called to her heavenly home. She was dedicated to her children and was blessed to be a homemaker. She always placed the well-being of her family before herself. After raising her children, she became a Foster Grandparent for the City of Cincinnati for 18 years. She received many awards for her service and dedication. Rose Ann was a great cook! Her specialties were peach cobbler and collard greens. She enjoyed the smiles her meals would bring to family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with her family, giving Godly advice to her children, playing Bingo, traveling (down south) and shopping. She was known as "Big Baby" growing up but over the years she became known as "The Hat Lady". She wore beautiful hats every day of the week, not just on Sunday's. Her favorite saying was "I'm not dressed up, I'm just clean". Before early signs of Dementia, she recorded a documentary of her life growing up in the South to leave for her legacy to treasure. The Matriarch of the Nichols family, she leaves behind to cherish her passing, (5) daughters: Jessie Drake, Linda Jones, Rose Burr (Larry), Robin Pryor, Janet Wells, (1) son James Nichols and a special family friend who she called her son Reverend Greg Evans; (4) sisters; Delores Christian (Norvell) of Bonita, Louisiana, June Watson and Lennie Nellus of Kansas City, Missouri and Joyce Richards of Kansas City Kansas; (15) grandchildren; De Asa Nichols, Renee Johnson (Rickey), John Wright, Robin Wright, Rickie Jones Jr., LaTasha Jones, Thomas Jones, Sade Jones, Nicole Nichols, William Stephens Jr., Y'Kese Stephens, Toneka Brundidge, Irvan Nichols, Marcus Nichols; (31) great-grandchildren; (2) great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and friends that paper can't hold.
