IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Rosa L.
Hollis
November 28, 1943 – January 17, 2026
Rosa Lee Hollis went on to be with the Lord peacefully on January 17, 2026 in Cincinnati, Ohio at the age of 82 years old.
Rosa L. Hollis was born on November 28, 1943 in Indian Springs, Georgia to William and Opalene Duffy. Rosa was proceeded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Hollis, along with her cherished mother and father, siblings Lavenia Freeman, Joe Duffie, and Winfred Duffy. As the middle child of seven(7) Rosa loved reading, playing outside and having good old fashioned fun while enjoying listening to grown folks conversations as well. The family moved to Flovilla, Georgia where she was baptized at China Grove Baptist Church, before moving to Jackson, Georgia. The family left down south and came to Cincinnati in May of 1957 when Rosa was 13 years old.
Rosa attended Porter Junior High, Withrow High School and graduated receiving her High School Diploma from Hughes Night School. She then went on to receive a post-graduate certificate in Data Processing.
Rosa married her sweetheart, Donald M. Hollis on April 20, 1968 and they were happily married for over 51 years. The couple was blessed with three children, Elaine, Donald Jr., and Barbara. Rosa and her husband hosted many cookouts, partied weekly and had innumerable impromptu gatherings for over five (5) decades. Rosa and Donald Hollis welcomed so many friends and family members into their home and several lived with them over the years. Rosa cultivated a home that was always warm, welcoming and loving. Rosa was a neighborhood treasure in Bond Hill. Whether she was hollering down the street, saying, "time to come home," feeding family or neighbors to braiding numerous kids' hair on the street to make sure they felt loved, groomed and taken care of. She loved her community, volunteered at the school working alongside the principal and secretary in the office of Swifton Elementary. Every summer you could catch her walking her children, nieces and nephews and neighborhood kids to Bond Hill Swimming Pool. Rosa spared no expense with speaking up for what was right. In growing up quiet but not shy, she found her voice in advocating for others. She was a champion of education and civic responsibility, including being and avid voter, a Brownie Troop Leader, a dedicated member of the Garden Lane Block Club and a Bond Hill community council member at times. Known for her quiet strength, resilience, tenacity and sheer grit while facing cancer and surviving. Rosa could always be seen talking on the phone, watching television, doing crossword puzzles, reading a book, hanging with family, talking to the neighbors, walking, enjoying the casino and playing her numbers. Rosa loved her family, friends and neighbors beyond measure and never met a stranger. She was a confidant, shoulder to cry on and a trusted go-to for many, from her mother, father, to family and friends. She was passionate about daily life with her husband, raising her children, and grandchildren. Regularly spending time with her siblings, brother-in-law, sister-in laws, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors. She actively attended New Prospect Baptist Church with her husband, daughter and grandchildren; and one of the first members at the Deloris H. Bland Senior Center, named after her husband's great aunt.
To treasure her memory and to continue her legacy, Rosa L. Hollis leaves her beloved children: Elaine Mullins (Hollis), Donald Muhammad (Hollis), Barbara (John III) Bell; and her grandchildren, Najiyyah Muhammad (Hollis), Nathaniel Bell, Kevin (Skylyn) Mullins Jr., Morgan Mullins and Jasmine Bell; great grandchildren, Amirah Muhammad (Wells), Amir Muhammad (Wells), and Raian Mullins; along with her cherished siblings: Lavinia Freeman (Deceased), Joe Duffy (Deceased), Ann (Arthur) Whitmire, Morris Duffy, Betty Stanfield and Winfred Duffy (Deceased) and in-laws Ronald Hollis(Twin) and Lois(Joe) Duffy and a host of nieces and nephews. Rosa Hollis will always be loved and cherished by many. To know her was to love her. She was lovingly known as Mommy, Mom, Ma, Rose, Rosa, Aunt Rose, Grandma, Sunshine, Tissy, Nissy Bell(by her father), Mrs. Rose, or Mrs. Hollis. Remember her giving nature, words of wisdom, no-nonsense personality, and unconditional love for her family and friends.
