He came to Cincinnati at the age of 14 to join his mother and father Jerome and Frances Lucille Waller (Montgomery) where he officially took on the role of Big Bro' demonstrating values learned in his early upbringing from deceased grandmother Oneida Montgomery and surviving aunts Katherine Hudson and Judy Mae Simms. After graduating from Woodward High School in 1969, he began working as a professional commercial floor cleaner until physical disabilities took their toll. In 2002, Romeo recommitted his life to Christ and joined New Christian Life Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Flave Hunter after being witnessed to on his Hackberry Street front porch by Pastor Christopher Phillips. This ordained encounter changed Romeo's life and forever connected him to his beloved church family. Romeo could never stop spreading the good news about the goodness of Jesus Christ as he faithfully served on the Usher Board and sang in the Male Chorus at New Christian Life. After 62 years of loyal and loving service to his family and friends, he was called back to heaven on March 21, 2014 to be with his father and mother, Jerome and Frances Lucille Waller. Romeo, leaves loving memories and teachings to daughter, Denna Nicole Montgomery and sons, Dion Demetrius & Jason Daniel Montgomery as well as fond "Papa" memories to grandchildren Dionna, Jizaiah and Jaida. Romeo will also be sorely missed by former wife and lifetime friend, Kathleen Montgomery (McRae), also the mother of his children. He will forever be cherished as Big Bro' by his three sisters: Gwendolyn, Angela and Donna Waller and his two brothers: Robert Montgomery and Jerome Waller, Jr. Not to forget his brother from another mother and best friend, Benjamin Graves (BJ). Romeo never forgot the "family first" and "people before things "philosophy learned early in life. This gentle giant was uncle to several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. A host of cousins, friends, and church family can also attest that Romeo's love, faithfulness and gentleness were genuine trademarks of a man who loved life and loved God. "Where there's a will, there's a way" was forever his battle cry. Rome had a can do spirit…and he did. Despite the odds of adversity or a body racked with physical challenges, he commanded his body daily to press on to see what the end could be, holding fast to the saying: "the race is not given to the swift but to he who endures to the end shall be saved." In the quiet of the night, on Friday, March 21st, Rome saw the splendor, the beauty of the angelic host's chariot pull up to his bedside to escort him to glory. Can't you imagine Rome, standing proudly by the Archangel Michael as they approached the heavenly gates, and shouting "Hallelujah!"….followed shortly by his signature phrase, "Well, kiss dem grits, I made it in!" We salute you, Romeo Earl Montgomery. You did!
