Roberta Beatrice Darby passed away on May 29, 2014 at the age of 89. She was born in Lexington, KY on October 12, 1924. Roberta Beatrice (Gray) Darby was on October 12, 1924 to Bertha and James Gray in Lexington, Kentucky. She went home to be with the Lord on May 29, 2014 at the age of 89. Roberta was the third oldest of seven children: three sisters, Loretta, Virginia, and Katie; three brothers, William, Walter and John Stanley, who all preceded her in death. Roberta was raised in the church and gave her life to Christ at an early age. In Lexington, Roberta attended Booker T. Washington Elementary School, Russell Junior High and Dunbar High School. Roberta moved to Cincinnati in the 1940's. There she met Carl Owens Lilly and had two daughters, Anita Celeste and Roberta Lynnette. As a young mother, she worked as a housekeeper in Covington, Kentucky. Later she attended school to become a practical nurse. She cared for many families through the years. She later worked as a child care provider and an advocate for young teens in many community programs. She leaves to cherish her memory: her children, Anita and Roberta; five grandchildren, Brett, Adria, Jameel, Deanna and Kareem; four great-grandchildren, Breelynn, Arleliah, Arianna, and Jordan; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Celebration services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills, 1025 E. McMillan Street, Cincinnati (Walnut Hills), 45206 with the visitation from 10:00 am until the hour of service. Interment in Walnut Hills Cemetery. Call 513-251-6200 for additional information.
