Obituary

Robert E. Bastin, age 74, born in Yosemite, KY on February 19, 1939, passed away February 13, 2014 after a brief illness. Bob was raised by Ruby and John Bayer in Afton and he often spoke fondly of the years he spent growing up on the farm which is now part of the East Fork State Park. He graduated with Williamsburg High school's class of 1958. After graduation he spent several years at various jobs before starting his career with Steelcraft in Blue Ash. Getting tired of the commute to Steelcraft, Bob spent many years working for the Village of Williamsburg's maintenance crew. He then worked for Abe-Tech until retirement. He married Dixie in August 23, 1969 and together they raised 5 children. Bob was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and if a game was on you knew you would find him in his favorite chair either watching or listening on the radio while he tinker in his man cave (garage). He was proud of having attended games at Crosby Field, Riverfront Stadium and The Great American Ballpark. He enjoyed watching the Bengals games. Bob also enjoyed playing and coaching softball, playing golf, and bowling. He is survived by children Leo "Skip" (Jackie) Shinkle, Heidi Shinkle Manahan, Felicia "Lisa" Shinkle Binder, Joseph Shinkle, and Margaret "Beth" Bastin Autry. Siblings John (Lois) Bayer, Frank "Tony" (Flo) Bayer, Betty (Dan) Bishop, and Linda (Al) Hayden; sisters-in-law Shirley Fee, Sandra Newsom, and Janet Kirby; Grandchildren Ernie Shinkle, Whitney Shinkle, Danielle Manahan, Eric Manahan, Sarah Manahan, Caitlin Manahan, Angela Binder, Craig "Dusty" Binder, Courtney (Jeremy) Stout, Robin Parker, Rhonda Hinkle, Anthony Fambry, and Megan Fambry. Great-grandchildren Carson Binder, Joselynn Binder, Aurora Cumbie, Taryn Stout, Presley Stout, Autumn Lovell, Emily Lovell, Summer Williams, and Jeremiah Williams. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his wife Dixie J. (nee Barnes), his mother and father Ruby and John Bayer, in-laws Pauline and Joe Kirby; son-in-law Rick Manahan, daughter-in-law Vivian Hinkle, brothers-in-law Jack Fee, Charles "Chuck" Newsom, and Jack Kirby; and grandchild Gabriel Fambry.
