Rick Elgin Johnson “AKA” Slick Rick, was born on May 21, 1964, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Juanita Johnson and Robert Taylor.

Rick received his primary education at Cincinnati Public School. He received his diploma from Woodward High School. Rick also received his CDL to drive semi-trucks. Rick and his brother Kim owned their own landscaping business. Rick accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by Pastor Calvin Harper at Morning Star Baptist Church.

Slick Rick, as he liked to be known, was a person with great empathy for people and life. He always had a big smile on his face. He was as direct a person as you ever wanted to meet, he was kindhearted abrasive, and funny, and loved to laugh. He loved to get dressed up and go out dancing at the clubs in his early days. He was an avid dancer who loved music to the very end. In his later years, due to ailments he learned how to communicate in differently, he wouldn’t text, but loved visits and being on the phone with family and friends and chatting of facebook with family and friends as well. Rick would tell his mom, “I fight a good fight, I’m still in the ring boxing and talking to God.

Slick Rick leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Juanita, his daughter Deaunna, his son Aqui “Mann”, his brother, Kim (Yvette), his sister Gaye, four grandkids, Dairuonna, Mariah, Joy, and Zy’ana, four great grandkids, DeVon, Jessica, DaJohn and Cino, four nieces, Shawna, Kawanna, Keia (preceded by Kutia), one nephew, Kenyauta, great nieces and nephews, a host of uncles and aunts, cousins and friends. The family would also like to thank Rick’s many caregivers who took care of him over the years especially “Woo” thanks you for being there to assist Rick allowing him to stay independent to the end.

Slick Rick was not a very big person, but he loved good cooking and 2 and 2. If you got a call or were going to visit, you probably brought him what he lovingly referred to as 2 and 2. He became hooked on his sister in law, Yvette, fixing him chicken on Sundays and his daughter Deaunna and his sister Gaye cooking his favorite food and holiday meals.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the Walker Funeral Home - Walnut Hills Chapel, 2625 Gilbert Avenue, Cincinnati (45206). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy he leaves behind.

He will be laid to rest at Walker Cremation Center, 8250 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45216.
