IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Renay
Jones
October 2, 1955 – September 17, 2024
Renay Jones, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, at the age of 68. Born on October 2, 1955, in Hamilton, Ohio, Renay lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to his family and friends. As he departed this world, he expressed his deep love for his family, reassuring them that while he would miss them dearly, he was ready for his journey to continue in peace. Renay was an athletic soul, excelling in both football and basketball during his formative years. After graduating from Taft Senior High School, he earned a full scholarship to college, where his athletic talents hinted at a future that could have led to the NFL. However, life had other plans in store for him. In a twist of fate, he met Yana Akkanson, the love of his life, who would change his perspective on marriage. Though they faced challenges, their love and commitment saw them through, and they built a beautiful life together. Renay often joked about never getting married, but Yana proved to be his greatest adventure and partner. Renay had a passion for gardening, taking pride in maintaining his yard and even lending a hand to neighbors, often alongside his friend Woody. His love for nature was matched only by his affection for his dog, Kukla, who brought him joy and companionship. When he wasn't tending to his garden, Renay could be found engrossed in sports or watching MSNBC, proudly cheering for his favorite team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Introduced to the joys of travel by Yana, Renay had recently acquired his passport, excited to explore the world beyond his hometown. Sadly, he departed this life just before embarking on that long-awaited journey. Renay was preceded in death by his father, Jacob Sr., and Charles Smith; his mother, Emma Jones Smith; his sister, Odessa Hudson; his brother, Jacob Jones Jr.; and his son, Tyrone Knight. He leaves behind a legacy of love, cherished by his devoted wife, Yana Akkanson, his children Shaun Seymour, Bink, JT, Coleman, Julia, and Jessica Cemberci, along with a host of grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Jakai Thurman. He is also survived by four sisters, Lillie Jones Thomas, Barbara Kirkland, Rita Jones, and Carolyn Jones; one brother, Richard Jones; three nieces, Neeka Thomas, Carmen Kirkland, and Myrtel Smith; and two nephews, Eric Debra Thomas and Shawn Kirkland. He held a special place in his heart for his great niece, Bre Asia Kirkland. Renay Jones was a man of quiet strength, unwavering love, and endless kindness. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey on this earth may be over, but his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of his loved ones. May he rest in peace.
