​Rachel Pates was born in Rosedale, Mississippi to the late Joseph Pates and the late Alberta Pates. She departed this life November 19, 2015 at her home. She was preceded in death by siblings Joseph Pates, Matilda McGruder, and Sammy Pates. At an early age, Rachel devoted her life to Christ. She performed well throughout her high school years at Princeton High School, especially excelling in the arts. Rachel had a 'knack' for not keeping her hands idle, whether through sewing, cooking, designing, or planting flowers. She loved to read and write love stories and poems. When her grandchildren were toddlers, she'd even put on puppet shows for them. Her love for entertainment and Hollywood acting, was often characterized in her favorite slogan 'Never let 'em see you sweat.' She leaves to cherish her sweet memories, 3 children and 1 stepson: David and Mario, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, Natasha (Stephen) of Georgia, and Larry Jr. (Michelle) of Virginia. She also leaves 7 sisters, Rosa Lee Pennington and Lenora Stance, both of Chicago, Illinois; Diane, Denise, Marilyn, and Mary, all of Cincinnati, OH and 4 brothers George and Osby of Cincinnati, OH, Charles of Chicago, Illinois, and Joseph Johnson of Mississippi. Rachel touched the lives of many people with her sense of humor and generosity. She always lent an ear, opened her door, or gave her last of anything, to those who said they were in need. Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service on Friday, December 11th, 2015 at 10AM. Services will be held at Walker Funeral Home on Findlay Street, Cincinnati, OH 45214. Burial services will follow at Vine Street Hill Cemetery. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Friday, December 11, 2015, at the Walker - Findlay Street Chapel , 930 Findlay Street, Cincinnati (45214). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am. Interment will follow Vine Street Hill Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
