We are here to celebrate the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. With roots in Magnolia, Georgia, and Mobile, Alabama, Phyllis Gulley was born to Tommy and Rosetta Gulley in Cincinnati, Ohio. At an early age, Phyllis's parents were called home.

Phyllis and her three sisters (Joyce, Marquetta and Wilma Mae) went to live with their grandparents Frank and Willie Pickens. Phyllis attended Taft High School, graduating in 1960. She later married her high school sweetheart, Ronald Rhodes, in 1964. Together, they had their first child, the late Mark Rhodes.

In 1968, Phyllis married James Sleet, and in 1971, they welcomed their daughter, Inger Rose Sleet.

Along with being a full-time mother, Phyllis manufactured furniture at Ficks Reed for over 20 years, before retiring in 2003 to become a full-time grandmother.

Phyllis continued to enjoy life doing the things she loved most: shopping, spending time with her family, and traveling. Her warm smile, unique style, and kind gestures continued to touch those around her until she was called home on April 14, 2025.

Phyllis leaves behind her daughter, Inger Sleet (Edward Barren); her grandchildren, Marquize Segar (Rimarr Rayford), Tiara Winfield (Deshawn Manley), and Kiara Winfield; and her great-grandchildren, Kamira Winfield and Trevon Winfield. She is also survived by her nieces and nephew, Tyrone Joyce, Brenda Burton, George Faulkner "John" and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Phyllis will forever be in our hearts.

Visitation is from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm, on  Saturday, May 3, 2025, at the Walker Funeral Home - Mt. Healthy, 7272 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy  (45231).   The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 3:00 pm. Friends and family will gather to share memories, find solace in one another's company, and honor the legacy she leaves behind.
