Obituary

Rev. Paul D. McMillan, Sr., age 73, entered eternal rest on December 18, 2013. He was born January 2, 1940 in Mt. Pleasant, Florida. Funeral Services will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, December 28 at FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH OF COVINGTON, 120 East 9th Street, Covington (41011). Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment Spring Grove Cemetery. Reverend Paul Dan (P.D.) McMillan was born on January 2, 1940 to the late Reverend W.E. and Mary Lou (Johnson) McMillan in Mount Pleasant, Florida. He graduated from Carter-Parramore High School. He later went on to Temple Bible College. Paul accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. He was a Junior Deacon and on the Usher Board. In the mid-60s he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio. He accepted his calling in the late 1960's and was ordained at Inspirational Baptist Church, Cincinnati, Ohio under the pastorate of Reverend E.O. Thomas, Jr. in 1968. He accepted the call by God and was sent to Second Baptist Church, Newport, Kentucky to labor in March of 1980 and installed in June, 1980. He served as Pastor of Second Baptist Church for 33 years. During his 33 years in pastoralship he instructed many other ministers and pastors. In September 2013, Reverend P.D. passed the torch of pastoralship on to Assistant Pastor, Reverend Frederick L. McMillan, Sr. Reverend P.D. became Senior Pastor and Chief Overseer. He continued to be an advisor to those who needed advice. A comforter to those who needed comforting; He was always there to assist in the ministry and provide guidance. Paul married Dartha Pollock and this union was blessed with two children, Paul D. McMillan, Jr., and Frederick L. McMillan, Sr. He worked at General Mills for over 20 years where he retired in 2000. He also worked numerous years at Tasty Bakery. Reverend P.D. McMillan has been a great inspiration to many. As we look back over how good God has been to him, through difficult times he has fought a good fight, kept the faith and never gave up hope of how good God was to him and is family. Paul leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife of 56 years, Dartha, three sons Paul McMillan Jr., Reverend Frederick McMillan (Alisa) Cincinnati, Ohio and Reverend Alvin Denson (Donna) Charlotte, North Carolina, five siblings Mary Neal McMillan (Justice deceased), Bessie Bell (Ulysses decreased), Jimmie McMillan Sr. (Mildred) Syracuse New York, Jeremiah McMillan (Gloria), James McMillan (Rossetta); seventeen grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by Curtis McMillan, Frances McMillan, Iola McMillan, Lottie McMillan, Elijah McMillan, Willie Ernest McMillan, Obidah McMillan and step-brother James Lyons and granddaughter RaSheeda McMillan.
