Obituary

Pamela Jean Starkey-Goss was born March 10 1954 in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was the sixth and only girl born to Freddie Starkey-McCollum and the late Willie Gilbert Starley. Pam departed this life on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the age of 59. She attended Madisonville Elementary, Lyon's Junior High, and graduated from Withrow High School in 1972. Pam was baptized as a young girl at Trinity Missionary Baptist church under the leadership of Rev. William Mosley. She later joined Bibleway Church of God In Christ, under the leadership of the late Bishop Abraham Swanson with her late husband, James C. Goss. Pam began her career as a mail clerk at South Western Publishing Company. She later had the desire to become a hair stylist and enrolled into cosmetology school. After work ing in several hair salons she became an instructor and successfully managed two salons. However, her love for her children was evident at an early age which pushed her to further her education and begin a career in Child Development. She attended Cincinnati State where she earned her Associates Degree. Other achievements included becoming a lead teacher for Small World Preschools, opening a new toddler class for Small World Daycare, and becoming an assistant teacher at the Madisonville Daycare. In addition, Pam was active with the Madisonville Community Council, and was the owner and director of Pam's Day Care, which was established in 1998 and successfully operated until her departure. Pam always went above and beyond the call of duty when it came to her daycare. She always extended her loving arms to family and friends, and would come to the aid of anyone in need. She illustrated this by helping to raise her nephew Leone and grandson Javonne. The unexpected loss of such a dear loved one has left so many of us extremely sad. Yet, we know our lives have been enriched by her presence. Pam is survived by and mourned by: her son, LaJohn Barkley, step children, Jawana Linn, Jamie Carolyn, Marlena and James Goss Jr. (DonMike), mother, Freddie Starkey-McCollum, three brothers, Norris Starkey, Lornie Starkey (Lana), and Bruce Starkey. Mother-in-law, Alma Gillard Goss Burke, six brother-in-laws and three sister-in-laws, nine step-grandchildren of the Goss family, three granddaughters, Lajai, Justynn, and Honesty; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; a special friend and care giver during her illness, Yunick Kendall. Pam was preceded in death by her father, Willie Gilbert, two brothers, Skip and Derrick Starkey. She will truly be missed.
