Lyles Jr.
April 14, 1949 – December 11, 2016
Otis Lee Lyles Jr. was bom April 14,1949, in Cincinnati, OH to the union of Lula Lyles and the late Otis Lee Lyles Sr. He heard the divine call and departed this life on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at his home in Cincinnati, Ohio. Otis confessed Jesus Christ as his Savior and had a personal relationship with God, until he was called home. He was pastor of Freeman Ave. United Church of Christ for several years. He graduated from Aiken Sr. High School in 1967. On March 14, 1969 he was drafted into the U.S. Military. He was accepted into the US Military Academy at West Point but was selected to serve in the Vietnam War under the 9th infantry Division until March 14, 1971. During his service, he became a Sergeant and earned the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and a Bronze Star Medal. In 1987, he was united in marriage to Alice Ward. Otis held several positions after leaving the military: a driver for Hostess, worker for the U.S. Department of Treasury and 10 yrs for Formica. He had passion for his role at Hoxworth Blood Center where he worked as a Telecommunications Recruitment Manager for 21 yrs until his health issues led to retirement in 2014. Even during his illness, he continued to make contributions to Hoxworth. He began the Minority Outreach Recruiting & Education (MORE) which obtained a record number of minority blood and platelet donors. His efforts in working with the Cameron Riley Campaign (Bone Marrow) led to Hoxworth Blood Center receiving the highest signup in the nation for marrow donation. Otis leaves to cherish his memory: a loving wife, Alice Lyles(nee Ward), three children Genice Lyles, Sharon (Larry) Matthews, and Jerry Ward; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; Otis also leaves his mother, Lula Lyles and four siblings, Sharon Lyles, Michael Lyles, Alice Burkes, Stephen Lyles, nieces, nephews and a host of family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Otis Lee Lyles Sr. Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, December 17, 2016, at the Walker - Mt. Healthy Chapel, 7272 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy (45231).
