Ophelia B Pugh was born in Wyoming, Ohio, on June 14, 1927, to the late Lula and John Ballew. She departed this life on Monday, October 24, 2016. Ophelia was baptized at Mt Zion Baptist Church in Lockland, Ohio. She attended Wyoming High School and completed her training to become a beautician. She was the owner of Ballew's Beauty Salon in Wyoming. The salon was later operated by her mother, Lula Ballew. Ophelia B. Pugh and her late husband, James E Pugh were entrepreneurs. They owned multiple businesses in the Greater Cincinnati area, including several gas stations, one of which was located at the present-day Walker Funeral Home on the corner of Paddock and Reading Road. One of her favorite interests was participating in politics. Ophelia was president of the North Avondale Neighborhood Association (NANA) for several years. She spearheaded multiple projects to enrich the quality of life in North Avondale. She is survived by three daughters, Gina Alexander, Jeanette Jackson, and Denise Newell. She has seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, four sisters, Thelma Johnson, Arnetta Daniels, Jean Bailey, and Lula Samuel and a brother, the late John Ballew. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Walker Funeral Home-Walnut Hills Chapel, 1025 E. McMillan Street (45206).
